16x20 Oil on linen $2600
“Tranquil Morning”
I was transfixed by a beautiful sunrise that I saw at a ranch I visited last fall. I wanted to capture the incredible colors and the overwhelming sense of calm and tranquility in the scene.
10x8 Oil on linen $750
“Waiting”
I painted this from a photo I took in Wyoming. My model, Ashley, is a beautiful Native American woman I've photographed and painted several times.
14x18 Oil on linen $2100
“Fading Light”
I love the light on the mountains as the sun is getting lower in the sky. Looking at the Inyo Mountains from Owens Valley.
18x24 Oil $3200
“Golden Valley Ranch”
My inspiration for this painting was a photo I shot of a shabby, patched barn with a horse grazing nearby. I have found the rolling golden hills of Caliente and Arvin very restful, so I worked them into the composition.
16x20 Oil $2300
“Lilac House”
I cruised the older section of Tehachapi looking for an urban subject. This vintage house in cheerful yellow was a wonderful foil for the many lilac bushes bursting with blooms. It felt like I was coming to visit Grandma.
12x24 Oil $3200
“Violaceous"
Properly named for the beauty and smell of these lilac bushes that line the drive way at the Dorner Family Vineyard. Flowers are one of my favorite things to paint but the aroma of this grouping made my first painting on location come to life. I knew a studio painting would bring back such memories. Lilac bushes are the Queen of bushes and did you know they are edible?
9x12 Oil $1200
"Left Behind"
Painted on location on the Milano Ranch, once owned by Jack Palance. I knew when I saw this relic I would have to paint it and I'm sure if it could talk. oh the stories it could tell. The Springtime flowers surrounding it with the beautiful mountains in the background made for a wonderful painting experience and a beautiful composition.
18x36 Oils $5800
"Old Yeller”
Visiting the Milano Ranch outside of Tehachapi I spotted this old tractor. I”m always drawn to paint old relics as they have their stories to tell. Old Yeller has a great view looking over the valley below. Quite a grand space for this tractor which I”m sure worked hard in it's day. Let's salute this relic put out to pasture for all to see and treasure at the entrance to this beautiful ranch.
12x9 Oil $750
“Through the Pines”
Trying to escape the wind in the valley, I ventured up to Mountain Park hoping to catch a nice vista from the higher elevation. I drove around looking for that perfect spot – they rarely come when you are looking. Being a bit disappointed I walked around with some of the snacks that I brought. Just as I came around the corner the sun illuminated this branch on the tree. It was beautiful! By the time I set up my paints, the light was nearly gone. I quickly did a sketch to keep the image fresh in my mind and painted it on the spot, emphasizing the colors that I felt
12x24 Oil $2200
"On the Move"
Oh, Horses are so much fun to be around! They’re intelligent, interesting, caring and of course, very noble and gorgeous! I was fortunate to be able to go to Oak Creek to observe these magnificent animals. It was early in the morning when I arrived. It was dusty from all the horses gathering around to catch some freshly brought-in hay. I saw this family off to the side moving on to a spot that was less crowded. This is a studio piece where I used strong warm and cool colors to emphasize the time of the day: with the sun chasing away the coolness of the night.
12x9 Oil $800
“Reflections”
I like to paint every day. It’s a discipline like exercising. When I’m not painting outside, I will set up a still life to examine different characteristics of light, color or the surface of different objects. With this one I was intrigued by the reflection in the small silver pitcher. It’s a quirky little pot that I like and have painted a few times. I also wanted to portray the glowing halos around the fruit and how it influenced the colors around it. With doing so much quick plein air work, it is nice to take concentrated time to further study the different effects of light.
11x14 Oil $1300
“Cool, Clear Water”
Water is the life blood for every rancher and essential throughout the warm summer. From this overlook you can see several ponds dotting the landscape, a happy result of a wet winter in Tehachapi. “Painting from this beautiful overlook, I wanted to capture the warm colors that blanketed the valley and show the reflected light of the life giving water.”
14x11 Oil $1300
“Three Dog Day”
The bond that is formed between a horse and rider is easy to see but add a dog or three and the fun really starts. This group looks excited to be heading out for the day’s work and happy to be doing it together on a beautiful day in Tehachapi. “I was drawn to the joy on everyone’s face as this group headed out for a day of adventures and knew there was a painting there.”
18x24 Oil $3500
"Path to the Patriarch"
When hiking back from the lake at Horse Thief Park in Stallion Springs, I was immediately overcome with a sense of peace and a feeling of being in His presence when I saw the majestic black oak on a pedestal of rocks before the backdrop of the mountains. It is a view I could not get out of my mind and I knew I needed to recapture the scene on canvas.
18x14 Oil $2000
"Resilience"
I find such a wonderful dichotomy between the ephemeral beauty of the monkey flower and the permanence of the rocks but most notable to me is the tenacity of the flowers to find the space to grow in such a harsh environment. To me there is a metaphor for life in which one is resilient enough to blossom no matter where one is planted.
8x8 Oil $750
"Oaks on the Rocks”
On a hot spring day while scouting places to paint, my eye caught site of this quintessential California landscape with oaks, boulders and yellow grasses. You can almost feel the heat of the day, smell the dry grasses and hear the creaking of the oak branches under the strain of the years of drought.
9x12 Oil on Canvas Panel $750
“Hopkins Pass”
The mountains are calling, and I must go. ~ John Muir
Looking up 2000 feet from Big McGee Lake toward Red and White Mountain and the little used old Shepard’s trail over the snowbound 12,000 ft pass to Upper Hopkins Lake is the quintessential high Sierra adventure. The cool morning shadows on the snow outline and contrast with the warm tones of the sawtooth ridge as the sun is just coming over the ridge. A play of light and shadow, warm and cool tones, horizontal shadows and vertical trees and ridges.
16x12 Oil on Wood Panel $1500
"Vespers" Devereux Slough Cypress
Vespers is a liturgy of evening prayer, one of the canonical hours. A time of contemplation that takes place as dusk begins to fall and gives thanks for the day just past. It is a scene of calm contemplation of the ancient cypress trees and the cosmic play of the moon and the evening star. And yet there is also a tension between the ancient trees which are grounded in the earth yet reaching toward the waxing moon, and the moon that is suspending the evening star just below it. The whole scene is a circle from the path to the trees, then on to the moon and evening star and back down again.
18x24 Oil on Wood Panel $4000
"Alpine Glow" Grinnell Lake
John Muir was right when he named the Sierras the land of Fire and Ice. There is nothing that compares to the alpine glow of the setting sun on the ragged peaks of Sierra Nevada range, especially when the sky and mountains are on fire. The granite peaks take on an orange glow as the sun sets, the clouds.
14x18 Oil on canvas $1750
“Passed Twin Peaks,”Tehachapi, Ca.
I was thrilled by the open spaces in the middle of untamed nature.
A few yellow flowers here and there add a romantic narrative to the scenery.
9x12 Oil on panel $1000
“Yellow Season,”Antelope Valley, CA
I felt compelled to place emphasis on more yellow wild flowers during this super bloom.
Though I have seen much more in other occasions since I scientifically record every single season. The yucca trees make for a nice and fresh approach.
14x18 Oil on Canvas $1750
“Near Lake Quail,” Ca
It is one of my favorite secret or unknown spots; passed Lake Quail on the way to Lancaster. I think it’s is within El Tejon Ranch. The time was after 10 am and before 2pm before the poppies close as they are sensitive to temperatures.
Feel free to ask about pics on the spot; though I painted it Plein Air.
10x10 Oils $3400
“Tejon Ranch Landscape”
Across the yellow fields and ravine a rugged landscape rises to meet the sky. Its deeply carved hillside becomes smooth and graceful as it approaches the summit. It conveyed an almost spiritual quality and an area of significance to those who lived here hundreds of years ago.
24x30 Oils $9000
“Tehachapi Land and Sky”
As a first time visitor to Tehachapi I was immediately impressed by the vast open space of the land, and the beautiful colors of spring pastures underneath the canopy of an intense blue sky. The cloud shadows moving over the distant mountains made human activity seem small by comparison.
24x36 Oils $10,800
“May Morning, Milano Ranch”
The vibrant green color of the pasture turns a muted, cool hue as it stretches across the valley. The ranch buildings set against the backdrop of the mountain seemed to convey a feeling of peace and restfulness.
12x9 Oil $1200
“A Garden Path”
I'm inspired to paint many types of beauty. Some scenes are less obvious and others, well, they're simply so pretty I am compelled to memorialize them in paint. I imagine the eventual owner of this piece stopping to take an imaginary stroll through this garden just to start their day off right.
24x18 Oil $3400
“Autumn's Gentle Departure”
I love Sycamore trees so, when I came across this scene in the final days of Fall it really got my attention. I loved the shapes and the manner in which they were arranged. And the COLOR! one might think I pushed the chroma quite a bit but, that really wasn't necessary. The sparse foliage tells us that Autumn is just about to make its exit.
16x20 Oil $2400
“The Light Beyond”
My challenge for this piece was to try and keep the viewer in the foreground for awhile. The warm light around the silhouetted trunks draws the viewer into the scene but, hopefully, not before they explore the subtleties of value, temperature shifts, and textures in the shadowed foreground. While the light gets one's attention, perhaps, it's the cool of the shade where one would prefer to linger.
24x30 Oils $12,000
“Winter Sunset and Wind Turbines”; Pacific Crest Trail, Tehachapi
“Imagine standing at the foothills of the Tehachapi Mountains on Willow Springs Road, gazing out at a sprawling landscape that seems to come alive with a graceful dance. One’s eyes are immediately drawn to the colossal white structures that dominate the horizon. They stand tall, like giants reaching for the sky, with their turbine blades slicing through the air. This was my first impression of the Tehachapi Pass wind farm. During the winter when I heard that Tehachapi was socked in under snow, I was immediately struck by the transformative potential of the scene. Recognizing that the juxtaposition of the wind farm's turbines set against the backdrop of snow and dark clouds would create a surprising beauty, I rushed over there and painted for three days. As the snow blanketed the undulating hills, a serene change took place. The familiar structures of the wind farm become ethereal; their clean lines softened by the delicate touch of snow. In this wintry tableau, I found a profound beauty that transcended the boundaries of the ordinary.
9x12 Oils $3200
“The Sacred Place”; Keene, Kern County
“As I stood on a hill above a secluded glen looking towards the east, I saw the Tehachapi Mountains bathed in an Alpenglow. A deep sense of reverence washed over me as I witnessed the reddish tones of the mountains in the distance complemented by the deep greens in the small hidden valley below. The interplay of light and shadow, the vibrant hues painting the mountains, and the quiet stillness of the surroundings coalesced into a moment of divine harmony. I sought to convey this profound sense of awe and spiritual connection in my painting and to invite the viewer to contemplate the sacredness of nature's quiet places.”
12x16 Pastel $4200
“Sunset Over Tejon Ranch”
"My pastel plein air painting, "Sunset over Tejon Ranch," encapsulates the breathtaking beauty and serene atmosphere of a captivating sunset in this vast landscape. Through this artwork, I aim to transport viewers to a moment of tranquility, where the interplay of colors and the ethereal light evoke a sense of wonder and emotion. I was captivated by the ever-changing hues of the sky as the sun began its descent. The warm oranges, deep purples, and soft pinks blended seamlessly, casting a gentle glow upon the landscape. The rolling hills and expansive mountain ranges of Tejon Ranch became a canvas for nature's artistry, a testament to the harmony found in the merging of earth and sky.
With delicate strokes of pastels, I sought to convey the vibrant verdant tones in the foreground and the subtle nuances of the sunset to capture the ephemeral nature of this captivating moment. The medium allowed me to blend and layer pigments, adding depth and texture to the painting, and inviting viewers to engage with the work on a sensory level. Through this artwork, I hope to evoke a sense of calm and inspire a renewed appreciation for the fleeting yet powerful moments of beauty that nature bestows upon us.”
6x12 Pastel $500
"Sweet Fragrance"
These beautiful flowering bushes were at the Dorner Family Vineyard and were so very fragrant which made it a must to stand out and paint. The music playing in the vineyard that day added to the peaceful and fragrant afternoon of plein air painting.
18x18 Pastel on Board $15,000
“The Milano Boot”
Inspired by a trip to the Milano Ranch, I noted a few pair of boots in the barn. Tempted to paint several of them, I decided to render a “portrait” of one boot and capture its character in the natural morning light softly flooding the room. The complementary colors of the boot neutralized by the years of dust and wear made for a memorable subject that one can imagine has seen quite a few adventures.
16x20 Pastel on Board $8400
“Morgan’s Morning”
Brimming with morning light, a mare and foal share a tranquil moment that I found endearing. The color contrast between their beautiful coats and the background made for an intriguing subject to capture in soft pastel.
14x18 Oil on linen panel $1000
“Iris Sisterhood”
The gateway to the artists who journey into the very special Art Tehachapi painting event each year starts at the beautiful Dorner Family Vineyard estate, where we gather for a fabulous hosted dinner and open bar, to learn what this year's details are for the artists paint out and exhibit. The drive to this beautiful venue is lined with a row of beautiful iris flowers, which I have photographed and painted. The iris, itself, represents faith, courage, and hope. As an artist, I can truly say these are the very virtues I need to call upon in order to do a work of art; it is not as easy as it may seem. Too, this row of irises that I captured remind me of a joyful group of women, having a grand old time, together.
9x12 Oil on linen panel $1000
“Pregnant Mare and Colt”
This painting is of a mare and her colt, getting a snuggle in before she becomes a mom to her baby, soon to be born. The tender scene reminded me of the cycle that is Life for the mares of the Oak Creek Wild Morgans in Tehachapi. The painting depicts to me, a touching moment where the colt snuggles its mother as she looks off, knowing there will be a new one to care for.
12x24 Oil on gessoboard fine art panel $2000
“Stillness and Locomotion”
While taking photos of some beautiful, lazy cows by the roadside in a fenced area, shaded by bountiful trees, I was delighted to see that a train came right by them. The tracks were on the opposite side, but close by them. The cows were safe, mind you, but I felt the interesting juxtaposition of machinery and flesh and blood were better described without fences. Both cows and train in fact, represent a commercial commodity or vehicle of goods for mankind; hence, this is why I concluded them to be "Tehachapi Urban."
12x12 Oil $1300
“Milano Land and Cattle”
“Milano Land and Cattle” was a fun one to paint. It was an effort to honor the land, the horse, the rider, and the cattle, and the dogs…all the elements that make up the ranch.
24x18 Oil $2500
“A New Friend”
“A New Friend” was painted from a photograph I took at the Milano Ranch when I noticed the beautiful coat Jeanette Pauer was wearing. She reached down to pet the dog who approached her, a bit shy at first, but I could tell she wanted to be friends.
24x12 Oil $2000
“Tehachapi's Finest”
“Tehachapi’s Finest” was inspired by memories of visiting Dorner Family Vineyard in May at the end of a day of painting. The lilacs as we drove in, were extremely fragrant, and at their peak bloom, and how I wished that I could grow them in the desert! The wine was a welcomed ending to the day.
20x24 Oils $3500
“The Story Begins”
During our Spring road trip through Kern County, Kernville beckoned us with its captivating charm and led me to acquire a book authored by Ardis M. Walker, a proud resident whose family's roots ran deep in the town for generations. Descended from the renowned 19th-century mountain man Joseph R. Walker, after whom Walker Pass was named, their enduring legacy inspired me greatly.
From this wellspring of inspiration and a profound appreciation for the locals' commitment to preserving their heritage, I painted a Western-themed still life. At its heart lies the book, supported by symbolic elements—the boots, a beautiful Remington 1100 shotgun, flowers, antlers, and a clay horse sculpture. Despite their simplicity, they carry the weight of storytelling.

“Like a Summer Day” Villa La Paz, National Chavez Center
Captivated by the allure of old Spanish-style architecture and the narratives woven within their walls, this mission-style villa instantly caught my eye. Drawing inspiration from its enchanting presence, I embarked on capturing its essence en plein air, under the scorching sun of a vibrant May day. While most of the painting was brought to life amidst the heat and light of that day, a touch of refinement was later added in my studio.
24x28 Oils $4500
“High Noon Quail Hunting” Near Tehachapi
My memories of quail hunting with seasoned hunter friends and a dog named Rocky. The dog was not there that day, but he is a legit trained hunting dog who I wanted to show. I asked my friends to take off their orange blaze jackets for this painting - that color is understandably too unnaturally bright for what I wanted to depict.
This painting marks a delightful departure from my usual style, encompassing elements of a Modern Western aesthetic. It encapsulates the timeless allure of this age-old pursuit, evoking a sense of adventure and camaraderie.

“Riverview Park - Kernville”
Riverview Park right in downtown Kernville surrounds a usually smooth but swift running Kern River which is what I painted here. This year , however, during the heavy rains the floodwaters rose and were so violent they ripped out the walkways and small outbuildings closer to the shore. It wasn’t as peaceful and pretty as it usually is when I visited my son’s cottages this year. In past years it is a fun and safe place for enjoying
nature and for kids to drop in a line and hope for a bite.
12x16 Oil/linen panel $1200
“Gentle Guardian”
I came across this family of deer grazing in the shade. The buck was watching carefully to make sure his family was protected.

“Cherry Lane Poppies”
One spring morning I headed out alone to do some plein-air painting and discovered a quiet, quaint road called Cherry Lane. I followed the poppy trail along the side of the road, and it led me to an idyllic farm scene. A rooster crowed, seeming to call my name. I saw a distant barn set against the mountain backdrop, perfectly framed in my view by the leaning fence posts, wooden slats, and barbed wire. I had found my scene to paint: a rural Tehachapi landscape brimming with poppies.
18x24 Pastel $3200
“Home on the Range”
We were invited to the Milano Ranch in May to paint and photograph this beautiful Tehachapi homestead. I was inspired to paint an epic sweeping landscape celebrating nature's miraculous transformation from a multi-year drought into blessed abundance after the winter and spring rains. The purple clover, wildflowers, foxtail and oat grasses blew gently in the breeze as a real-life cowboy on horseback with a loyal herding dog by his side surveyed the cattle and all he could see. The moment was timeless, reminding me that life is good, and the future is bright.
20x16 Pastel $2800
“Home Sweet Home”
At the Milano Ranch, five herding dogs live and work among the ranchers and cattle, valuable members of the family. One of the dogs, named Parker, was exceptionally friendly with the visiting artists. I noticed she looked like a McNab, a landrace herding breed developed in the late 1800s in Mendocino County, California. Because we have two McNab dogs on our own ranch, I was delighted to find another one, as they are rarely seen. In a sweet moment, I caught Parker looking wistfully up the road toward the red barn on the homestead and just had to paint it.

“The Kern River Live Oak”
The Kern river and lake Isabella are places I have visited many time, but have never boated or swam in the lake or the river. "Whistle, Pop Bottle Series #11"
I wanted to honor my brother’s collection of vintage soda pop bottles, so decided to paint a numbered series of my favorites. This bottle for the orange soda was in circulation in the 1950s. Thirsty? Just Whistle….
14x18 Oil $2200
"Sierra Spring Blues"
I stood in this spot and worked on a smaller plein air oil sketch on an overcast, spring day, but the scene ignited with neon blues and greens when the sun came out. This larger studio painting embodies my experience in that moment.
14x18 Oil $2200
"Ol’ Faithful"
I am drawn to the unique character that time bestows on well-used objects, including cars, tools, and vessels. Worn edges fit hands just right; chipped or faded paint provides the beauty of variation; and scratches and dents record events and serve as reminders of days past.
16x20 Oil on panel $1575

Graffiti shakes up the system by turning up the volume of its host’s quiet place.

“The Egrets of Herring Road”
Each year, Herring Road hosts upwards of a hundred egrets, which fly silently over their rippled reflection.
24x18 Oil on canvas panel $6850
“Artistic Harvest”
I became inspired to create a still life composition that would embrace a bit of an artistic harvest, starting with brushes at the ready to entwine the scene with a landscape. Combining these elements acknowledge the inspirational landscapes that are an important legacy.
9x12 Oil on canvas panel $1950
“On Patrol”
One of the charming aspects of life in a rural community is the ability to have access to endless trails and the horses to explore them with. The riders are always generous of spirit and their mounts display great dexterity maneuvering about the vegetation and irregular grounds.Their stories are a part of the Tehachapi fabric.
19x36 Oil on canvas panel $7550
“A Golden Course”
This year, poppies carpeted the surrounding countryside in a mantel of gold intermingled with a diversity of indigenous plants. When those glorious shades electrify the the rolling hills we are indeed the Golden State!
6x12 Oil on panel $950
“Oaks in the Poppy Field”
Few things say California landscape painting to me quite like fields of super bloom poppies bursting up around rows of classic oak lined rolling hillsides. I was absolutely stopped in my tracks by this epic view while driving along Caliente Bodfish Road.
12x16 Oil on canvas $1410
“Ripe for Harvest at Cesar Chavez National Monument”
I wanted to honor the legacy and memory of Cesar Chavez with this less developed view of the National Monument grounds. The state of disrepair seen here struck me with the sense of possibility to repair and harvest more than just a building.
18x24 Oil on canvas $2065
“Date Night”
I stumbled across two mule deer quietly walking together across a field of spring flowers as half light began to divide day into evening. Instantly I knew that this is what a perfect date night must look like to the young couple I found courting around Tehachapi
12x12 Oil on linen $2800

I wanted this painting to express the quiet, calm beauty of a spring morning walking around Horse Thief Park in Stallion Springs. From the warm spring morning light to the sounds of red winged blackbirds, I strove to express these sensations in paint.
9x18 Oil $1600
“Tehachapi Choo Choo”
After a day or so exploring Tehachapi it was obvious that the BNSF Locomotives ruled much of the area. I wanted to find the synthesis of the Loop and the high desert, and create a balance between the two. At Caliente I saw the perfect statement and this double square format almost painted itself!
12x16 Oil $4700
“Mustang Valley”
One of the highlights of the May paint-out in Tehachapi is the visit to see the wild mustangs and to spend the morning with them. They are beautiful with Morgan bloodlines and as eager to see us and we are to see them. Their protector brings hay to encourage their attendance. After they have indulged in munching on the hay, they break into groups to show off. The "teenage" geldings are particularly lively as they run to and fro among the steadier adults. At some point in the morning, the yearlings travel down the valley and back, getting a drink from the blue watering troughs, and running to stretch their legs. The mares, stallions and foals steadily plod towards the watering troughs while the younger horses frisk about,
mingling in and out of various groups.
10x20 Oil $4900
“Elk In The Meadow”
I have been observing the Elk of Bear Valley Springs for several years.
It is not always possible to see them where and when one wishes. They are stately creatures that appear calm and unruffled as people gather around. It is well to remember that they are wild animals and treat them with respect and distance. Their power and dignity is well noted as they wander the valley freely–after all they were here first!
9x12 Oil $3500
“Hiding In Plain Sight”
Most everyone is touched by the sight of new fawns. They are so delicate and interesting to observe if one is lucky enough to see them once mama deer has hidden them. They seem full of wonder and excitement as they cautiously explore their new world. These babies are "hidden" in the shadows of the pine tree as mama deer is grazing nearby. They have rested all they want and are ready to explore, but alert for danger at the same time.
10x12 Oil $450
