Artist Statement:
I followed the lower Kern river up to Like Isabella, viewing it at various access points. I was struck by the variety of activity in the water, from quiet eddies to crashing white water. I wanted to include the nuances of the river in my painting.
“Bunkhouse Memories”

Artist Statement:
We were given the privilege of painting on a private ranch. I found handmade art objects in the bunkhouse and included several in this small painting. A period photo tied the objects to the past.
“Dry Wash”

Artist Statement:
This painting was executed en plein air, a couple of days after a vigorous spring rain. I was surprised to find this wash perfectly dry and painted from the center of the wash, capturing the lush variety of the landscape colors in the early spring.
